Getting bumped from your flight for free airfare
Posted on September 9th, 2006 by Financial Diva
If you have the good/bad fortune of being booked on an oversold flight, if your travel time if flexible, ask to be bumped if they need the seats. Most airlines offer a free roundtrip airfare for your inconvenience. So that $200 flight from Los Angeles to Denver could net you a free roundtrip ticket to Mexico or Hawaii this winter.
When you check in, ask if it is oversold, then request to be placed on the bump list. But do be aware that while you may not get on the flight, your luggage may, so if you are required to stay overnight (often with the airline putting you up in a nice hotel) you may not have your suitcase with you.
