Writing off home office business expenses

Are you remembering to write off your home office expenses when it comes to filing your taxes? If your home office is used regularly and exclusively as the main place of your business, you can deduct many types of home office expenses. But there is a catch… you can ONLY use the space for business, you can’t use the same desk for, say, your scrapbooking too.

What can you deduct? A percentage (equal to the space of the office) of your home expenses, including mortgage interest or rent, insurance, utilities, and even maintenance and repairs.

Even smaller things can be deducted, such as your business cards, postage or printer paper.

Be sure to consult with a tax professional to ensure you are expensing everything that you can, and that you are expensing it properly.
