Getting a great raise from
your boss
We all think we deserve a great raise, the
problem is convincing your boss. But that's exactly what you are going to be able to do by
following these steps.
There are two steps in getting a raise. The
first is earning it, and the second is negotiating it.
I'm going to assume that you've earned it.
You've worked hard the past year, and now is the time to point out all of your
accomplishments. Approximately two weeks before your review, create a memo that outlines
your achievements from the past year.
Make sure you cover two areas. The first
area should be all of the great things you were able to bring about. Whether it's sales
quotas that were doubled, increased employee efficiency,
or a new filing system that you have implemented. The second area you should
cover is situations that could have been worse. This is for things like being able to keep
your departments employees, despite decreasing wages or layoffs, or losing a case but
negotiating a settlement that was more in favor of your client.
Ten days before your review you will send
the memo off so that your boss can acknowledge your achievements before they have to sit
down with you. Once you are in the review, you should be able to bring up with memo with
ease, and be able to discuss your achievements by going over the outline you've already
prepared.
Now that you've earned the raise and your
boss knows it, you can start the negotiations!
